Description
Protein skimmers, sometime referred to as foam fractionators, are used to remove dissolved solids and the fine particulates that mechanical filtration does not catch. In the system, a part of the protein skimmer removes the solid deposition at the bottom of the bio-filter, and another part reactivates the stripped bio-film in the bio-filter and adds beneficial microorganisms, returning back to the bio-filter and thus forming an internal circulation. The skimming process is most effective in saltwater systems.
